France: visa decisions in Brazil
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 356 | 280 | 77 | 21.5% | 12.9% |
| 2024 | 432 | 351 | 63 | 15.2% | 18.2% |
| 2025 | 508 | 414 | 81 | 16.4% | 12.6% |
In 2025, France’s embassy and consulates in Brazil (São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Recife and Brasília) received 508 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 414. 16.4% of applications were refused. In 2024 the rate was much the same, 15.2%. Applications rose by 18% compared with 2024 (432).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 23.6% of the applications lodged in Brazil that year. France’s consulates worldwide refused 14.2%. France was the 2nd most applied-for Schengen state in Brazil.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Brazil, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
