Switzerland: visa decisions in Australia

YearApplicationsVisas issuedRefusedRefusal rateMultiple-entry share
2023 1,0261,02140.4% 98.1%
2024 1,2991,29700.0% 99.3%
2025 1,2151,20470.6% 99.8%

In 2025, Switzerland’s embassy and consulates in Australia (Sydney) received 1,215 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 1,204. The refusal rate was 0.6%. That is barely different from 2024 (0.0%). Applications fell by 6% compared with 2024 (1,299).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 3.0% of the applications lodged in Australia that year. Switzerland’s consulates worldwide refused 12.5%. Switzerland was the 5th most applied-for Schengen state in Australia.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Australia, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
