Latvia: visa decisions in Australia
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 4 | 4 | 0 | – |
| 2024 | 27 | 18 | 6 | 22.2% |
| 2025 | 26 | 16 | 10 | 38.5% |
In 2025, Latvia’s embassy and consulates in Australia (Canberra) received 26 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 16. 38.5% of applications were refused. In 2024 it had been 22.2%: the rate rose by 16.2 points, a sharp increase. Applications fell by 4% compared with 2024 (27).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 3.0% of the applications lodged in Australia that year, from 0.6% at the consulates of Switzerland to 8.8% at those of the Netherlands. Latvia’s consulates worldwide refused 12.3%. Latvia was the 19th most applied-for Schengen state in Australia.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Australia, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
