Who qualifies

The applicant must be legally married to a citizen of the Maldives. The Resident Visa framework also keeps a right to stay for foreign nationals whose marriage to a Maldivian ended in divorce and who have a Maldivian child, and for those whose Maldivian spouse has died, where they remain eligible under the applicable laws.

Foreign nationals who plan to come to the Maldives to marry or to register their marriage need a Sponsorship Declaration submitted by the Maldivian sponsor on IMUGA and approved before travel. Those already in the Maldives on another valid visa can apply to change category once the marriage has been legally registered.

Documents

The application includes the completed IM20 form, a copy of the foreign spouse's passport, the latest arrival stamp (first-time applicants) or the latest visa page (if in the Maldives), the marriage certificate, a copy of the Maldivian spouse's national identity card and a recent passport photo. First-time applicants also need a valid medical report and valid health insurance. Immigration may ask for further documents.
