LithuaniaVisits and short stays
Lithuania tourist visa (Schengen type C)
Schengen short-stay visa (type C) for tourism
In short

You apply at the Lithuanian embassy or consulate responsible for your place of residence or its external service provider, pay EUR 90, and show travel insurance of at least EUR 30,000 and EUR 50 for each day of the stay. Decisions normally come within 15 calendar days.

Who uses this visa
The tourist visa is for leisure travel when Lithuania is your only or main destination, or, if no main destination can be identified, when Lithuania is the first Schengen country whose external border you cross. Lithuania counts as the main destination when you spend the most days there or when it is the main purpose of the trip.
Apply in the country where you legally reside. Where Lithuania has no mission, another Schengen state may represent it: residents of Pakistan, for example, apply at the Hungarian Embassy in Islamabad and residents of Iran at the Spanish Embassy in Tehran.
Passport, form and biometrics
The passport must be valid for at least three months after you plan to leave the Schengen area, have at least two blank pages and have been issued within the last ten years. The application form is completed on migracija.lt (MIGRIS): create an account, choose the Schengen visa form, then print and sign it. Forms for minors are signed by a parent or guardian.
A photo and ten fingerprints are taken when you apply. Fingerprints collected for an earlier Schengen application less than 59 months ago are copied over; children under 12 do not give fingerprints. For the travel part, Lithuanian missions publish checklists by purpose; the tourism list asks for proof of the trip, accommodation and funds.

Funds and insurance
Lithuania sets the subsistence amount at EUR 50 per day of the planned stay (Order of the Minister of Foreign Affairs No V-227 of 4 July 2023). A minor travelling with an adult family member does not have to prove separate funds. As an alternative, a person or company in Lithuania can register an invitation (tarpininkavimo raštas) in MIGRIS and commit to providing accommodation and support during the visit.
Travel medical insurance must cover at least EUR 30,000 for the whole stay, be valid in Lithuania, pay basic medical costs and medical repatriation, and be written in Lithuanian, English, German, French or Russian. The policy must show the policy number, the insurer, the insured person, the amount, the period and the territory covered.
Fees and exemptions
The visa fee is EUR 90 for adults and EUR 45 for children aged 6 to 11. An external service provider, where the mission uses one, adds its own service charge. The visa fee is not refunded if the visa is refused.
Some groups pay no visa fee, for example family members of Lithuanian, EU or EFTA citizens, and pupils, students and accompanying teachers on study trips. Check the exemptions with the mission responsible for you, as some depend on nationality.
Timing of the application
Book an appointment as the mission or its external service provider instructs. You can lodge the application up to six months before the trip and, as a rule, no later than 15 calendar days before departure. In justified urgent cases the visa authority may accept a later application.

Refusal and appeal
A refusal is notified on the standard EU form with the reasons ticked. You can appeal to the Vilnius Regional Administrative Court (Žygimantų g. 2, Vilnius) within 14 days of receiving the decision. The appeal must be written in Lithuanian, documents in other languages must be translated, and the stamp duty is EUR 30, reduced to 75% when the appeal is filed only electronically. There is no administrative re-examination of a refusal.
Complaints about how staff or an external service provider handled your application can be sent to the visa authority or to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; they are answered within 20 working days, extendable by 10.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I lodge the application?
At the Lithuanian embassy or consulate responsible for your place of residence or at the external service provider it uses, by appointment.
How early should I apply?
Up to six months before the trip and normally at least 15 calendar days before it. Since decisions can take up to 45 days, applying a month or more ahead is safer.
Is there a priority or express service?
The Migration Department’s urgent procedure covers residence permits, not Schengen visas. In justified urgent cases the visa authority may accept an application lodged later than 15 days before the trip.
Can I extend my stay once in Lithuania?
The Migration Department can extend a Schengen visa or the permitted stay for EUR 30 when you cannot leave in time; in cases of force majeure or humanitarian reasons the extension is free.
