What counts as a business visit
A business visa covers trips to meet clients and suppliers, negotiate or sign contracts, attend trade fairs and conferences, or visit a group company. Since 1 July 2024 foreigners on a Schengen visa or visa-free stay may not work in Lithuania, with listed exceptions. One of them is relevant for business travellers: entry for no more than three months a year to handle matters related to concluding and performing a contract, training staff or installing equipment.
Anything beyond that, such as being employed by a Lithuanian company or working on a project for months, needs a temporary residence permit.
Business documents
Use the mission’s separate checklist for business visits. The file has to show the purpose of the trip and the link between the companies on both sides; in practice that means an invitation from the Lithuanian company, which can be registered in MIGRIS, a letter from your employer describing your position and the trip, and proof of the company’s registration. Fair or conference registrations and correspondence with the partner support the file.
Truck drivers have their own checklist. Each traveller lodges a separate application with fingerprints and the standard passport and insurance requirements.
