Conditions

The expected duration of the course must be known, and the head of a recognised educational institution must confirm that the studies can start or continue. You need the language skills required for the teaching, sufficient funds for living and study costs so that no social assistance is needed, proof of the mandatory health insurance covering all risks in Liechtenstein, suitable housing or accommodation and no convictions for crimes or misdemeanours. Your departure at the end must appear assured. For minors, care must be arranged.

Documents

Typical evidence includes a valid passport, the institution's confirmation of admission and course length, proof of language skills, proof of funds such as bank statements or a guarantee, proof of health insurance through a policy or insurer's confirmation, a rental contract or accommodation confirmation, and a criminal record extract. The office may ask for further documents in the original.

Work, family and timing

The short-stay permit for study (L) allows residence for the length of the course but for at most 12 months at a time; a new L permit can be requested before it expires if the studies are not finished. Third-country nationals studying at the University of Liechtenstein may work up to 35% of their study time if the job is related to their studies, and every job needs a permit. Students cannot bring family members under family reunification. The complete application must reach the office at least 14 days before the course begins; applicants who need a visa are advised to apply earlier so that they can enter on time.
