Who is eligible
The official e-Visa eligibility list covers about 175 countries and territories, from Albania to Zimbabwe. What counts is the nationality of your passport, not the country where you live. Nationals of countries not on the list, Türkiye among them, apply for a regular visa through the online form and the Indian mission responsible for their place of residence.
Sub-categories
The e-Visa has sub-categories for tourism (30 days with multiple entry, one year or five years), business (one year with up to 180 days per stay, plus conference and lecture variants), medical and medical attendant (one year from arrival; up to two attendants per patient), Ayush treatment, student, transit (30 days), film, miscellaneous, entry and production investment. e-Visas cannot be extended or converted and are not valid for protected, restricted or cantonment areas.
How it works for eligible nationals
Eligible applicants apply online at least four days before arrival; for medical visas the arrival date can be chosen within a 120-day window. The passport must be valid for at least six months at the time of application. Fees depend on nationality, a 3 percent bank charge is added, and payment must be made at least four days before travel. Travellers from yellow fever affected countries must carry a vaccination card or may be quarantined for six days.
- Check whether your nationality is on the e-Visa list; if it is not, use the regular visa process.
- Eligible travellers fill in the e-Visa form on indianvisaonline.gov.in and upload the photo and passport page.
- Pay the fee at least four days before travel.
- Re-upload documents if asked by e-mail and wait for the ETA.
- Arrive through an authorised immigration check post and submit the e-Arrival card within 72 hours before arrival.
Arrival card and FRRO registration
Foreigners complete the e-Arrival card online within 72 hours before arrival on boi.gov.in, indianvisaonline.gov.in or the Indian Visa Su-Swagatam app. Holders of student, employment, medical or missionary work visas valid for more than 180 days must register with the jurisdictional FRRO or FRO within 14 days of arrival; holders of other visas, including business visas, must register if they stay more than 180 days continuously or within a calendar year. Children under 12 are exempt. Extensions and conversions are requested on indianfrro.gov.in while you are in India and before your visa expires.
