How visas for Chad work
Access to Chadian territory requires a visa unless a traveller is exempt, and visas are now issued online. Under Decree No. 2299/PR/PM/MSPI/2025 on the entry and stay of foreigners and Joint Order No. 033/PR/PM/MFBEPCI/MSPI/2026 on visa categories and fees, the Directorate of Emigration and Immigration and its e-Visa sub-directorate announced that from 11 May 2026 every new visa application must be submitted on the official platform evisa.td.
After 21 May 2026, any visa issued outside the platform is considered invalid and does not allow entry, although visas regularly issued before that date remain valid until they expire. Manual entry authorisations have been abolished. Diplomatic and courtesy visas remain the responsibility of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Nationals of 19 countries, most of them in West and Central Africa, are exempt; everyone else applies online.
Applications should be made at least seven days before entry and no more than 90 days ahead. An issued eVisa cannot be modified or refunded, and the immigration services check proof of yellow fever vaccination on arrival. People seeking protection apply under the 2020 asylum law through the CNARR. Because of the security situation in parts of the country, consult official security information before planning a trip.
