How visas for Cape Verde work

Cabo Verde manages the arrival of travellers through EASE, an official system for the efficient, automatic and safe entry of travellers. Visitors pre-register online with their personal and travel information before arrival, and travel agencies can register groups through a separate access.

From 1 January 2026, nationals of 91 countries listed by the authorities must obtain an entry visa, and a transit or airport transit visa, from a Cabo Verde embassy before arriving; otherwise entry, transit or stopover is refused. The list includes, among others, Algeria, Egypt, Iran, Pakistan, Mexico, Indonesia and Kazakhstan. The first version published on 24 November 2025 named 96 countries; the rectified list of 23 January 2026, published on the EASE website, is the one that applies.

The visa requirement does not apply to listed nationals who hold a valid residence permit from an EU member state, Iceland, Liechtenstein, the United Kingdom, San Marino, Switzerland, the Vatican, Brazil, Canada or the United States that guarantees readmission, to holders of a Cabo Verde residence permit (TRE), to aircraft crew and to people born in Cabo Verde with their spouses and minor children.

The pre-registration also collects the airport security fee of CVE 3,400 for international flights. Under the fee table in force since 1 February 2026, a tourist visa requested on the platform costs CVE 2,500 and one granted at the border CVE 5,000. Foreigners who settle in the country apply to the Directorate of Foreigners and Borders (DEF) for a residence visa and then a residence authorisation documented by the TRE card.
