What the business visa allows
Algerian missions define the business visa as the visa for people travelling to do business: attending meetings, taking part in economic events, studying the market and exploring partnerships with Algerian operators. They stress that the visa gives no right to paid work or activity and that a holder found working loses all protection.
Companies sending staff to install equipment, provide maintenance or carry out support missions must apply for a temporary work visa if the job lasts up to three months, and for a work visa in all other cases.
Company documents
The applicant provides a letter from their employer stating their position and the purpose of the trip, and recent documents identifying the sending company, such as a trade or commercial registry extract, a list of authorised signatures and its tax number. The Algerian side sends a commercial invitation signed by its legal representative and stamped by the Algerian Chamber of Commerce or the municipality.
Travel insurance is required unless the inviting company covers the trip's costs. Embassies elsewhere ask for a mission letter from the employer or an invitation from the Algerian partner, plus a hotel booking or a letter of support from the inviting organisation.

Fees and validity
Business visas follow the general rules: validity up to two years, single or multiple entry, 90 days per stay and at most 180 days a year. The fee depends on nationality (USD 160 for US citizens in Washington).
If the visa is refused
Law No. 08-11 lets an applicant whose consular visa is refused make an informal appeal (recours gracieux) to the mission concerned, in line with reciprocity. Embassies may also ask for additional documents at any stage.
How to apply, step by step
- Ask the Algerian partner for a signed invitation and have it stamped by the Chamber of Commerce or the municipality.
- Obtain a letter from your employer and recent company documents.
- Complete two forms on a computer, sign them and attach photos.
- Submit the file at the mission covering your residence and pay the fee.
- Travel only for the business activities stated; switch to a temporary work visa if the trip involves technical work.
