Spain: visa decisions in Venezuela
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 277 | 198 | 70 | 26.1% | 9.6% |
| 2024 | 430 | 373 | 36 | 8.8% | 9.4% |
| 2025 | 643 | 567 | 5 | 0.9% | 12.9% |
In 2025, Spain’s embassy and consulates in Venezuela (Caracas) received 643 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 567. The refusal rate was 0.9%. The refusal rate fell by 7.9 points from 8.8% in 2024, a clear improvement for applicants. Applications rose by 50% compared with 2024 (430).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 2.2% of the applications lodged in Venezuela that year. Spain’s consulates worldwide refused 14.6%. Spain was the most applied-for Schengen state in Venezuela.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Venezuela, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
