Spain: visa decisions in Uruguay

2024 17018731.6% 2.1%
2025 181174157.9% 1.7%

In 2025, Spain’s embassy and consulates in Uruguay (Montevideo) received 181 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 174. 7.9% of applications were refused. In 2024 it had been 1.6%: the rate rose by 6.4 points, a sharp increase. Applications rose by 6% compared with 2024 (170).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 7.8% of the applications lodged in Uruguay that year. Spain’s consulates worldwide refused 14.6%. Spain was the most applied-for Schengen state in Uruguay.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Uruguay, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
