Italy: visa decisions in Uruguay

YearApplicationsVisas issuedRefusedRefusal rateMultiple-entry share
2023 3125619.4% 28.0%
2024 3325824.2% 28.0%
2025 272613.7% 11.5%

In 2025, Italy’s embassy and consulates in Uruguay (Montevideo) received 27 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 26. The refusal rate was 3.7%. The refusal rate fell by 20.5 points from 24.2% in 2024, a clear improvement for applicants. Applications fell by 18% compared with 2024 (33).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 7.8% of the applications lodged in Uruguay that year. Italy’s consulates worldwide refused 10.8%. Italy was the 3rd most applied-for Schengen state in Uruguay.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Uruguay, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
