Germany: visa decisions in the United Arab Emirates
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 26,024 | 19,428 | 6,283 | 24.3% | 98.9% |
| 2024 | 32,956 | 23,399 | 8,778 | 27.0% | 99.5% |
| 2025 | 40,555 | 31,124 | 8,883 | 22.0% | 85.2% |
In 2025, Germany’s embassy and consulates in the United Arab Emirates (Dubai City) received 40,555 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 31,124. The refusal rate was 22.0%. The refusal rate fell by 5.0 points from 27.0% in 2024, a clear improvement for applicants. Applications rose by 23% compared with 2024 (32,956).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 24.2% of the applications lodged in the United Arab Emirates that year, from 10.9% at the consulates of Latvia to 58.2% at those of Bulgaria. Germany’s consulates worldwide refused 13.1%. Germany was the most applied-for Schengen state in the United Arab Emirates.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in the United Arab Emirates, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
