Belgium: visa decisions in the United Arab Emirates
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 6,788 | 5,513 | 1,275 | 18.8% | 93.7% |
| 2024 | 6,588 | 5,367 | 1,180 | 18.0% | 87.1% |
| 2025 | 7,460 | 5,917 | 1,462 | 19.8% | 59.8% |
In 2025, Belgium’s embassy and consulates in the United Arab Emirates (Abu Dhabi Island and Internal Islands City) received 7,460 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 5,917. The refusal rate was 19.8%. The refusal rate rose by 1.8 points from 18.0% in 2024. Applications rose by 13% compared with 2024 (6,588).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 24.2% of the applications lodged in the United Arab Emirates that year, from 10.9% at the consulates of Latvia to 58.2% at those of Bulgaria. Belgium’s consulates worldwide refused 26.1%. Belgium was the 12th most applied-for Schengen state in the United Arab Emirates.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in the United Arab Emirates, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
