Netherlands: visa decisions in Uganda
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 3,107 | 1,525 | 1,495 | 49.1% | 14.8% |
| 2024 | 3,326 | 1,545 | 1,662 | 51.3% | 31.1% |
| 2025 | 3,640 | 1,472 | 2,128 | 59.0% | 24.3% |
In 2025, the Netherlands’ embassy and consulates in Uganda (Kampala) received 3,640 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 1,472. 59.0% of applications were refused. In 2024 it had been 51.3%: the rate rose by 7.7 points, a sharp increase. Applications rose by 9% compared with 2024 (3,326).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 36.8% of the applications lodged in Uganda that year. the Netherlands’ consulates worldwide refused 17.7%. The Netherlands was the 4th most applied-for Schengen state in Uganda.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Uganda, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
