Italy: visa decisions in Uganda

YearApplicationsVisas issuedRefusedRefusal rateMultiple-entry share
2023 2,1801,62654825.1% 41.8%
2024 2,4691,95450320.4% 26.5%
2025 3,9593,36059915.1% 25.4%

In 2025, Italy’s embassy and consulates in Uganda (Kampala) received 3,959 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 3,360. The refusal rate was 15.1%. The refusal rate fell by 5.3 points from 20.4% in 2024, a clear improvement for applicants. Applications rose by 60% compared with 2024 (2,469).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 36.8% of the applications lodged in Uganda that year. Italy’s consulates worldwide refused 10.8%. Italy was the 3rd most applied-for Schengen state in Uganda.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Uganda, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
