2024 18,16012,3705,42230.5% 48.1%
2025 21,66115,7355,74226.7% 51.5%

In 2025, Sweden’s embassy and consulates in Turkey (Istanbul) received 21,661 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 15,735. 26.7% of applications were refused. In 2024 it had been 30.5%: the rate fell by 3.7 points. Applications rose by 19% compared with 2024 (18,160).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 14.6% of the applications lodged in Turkey that year, from 3.5% at the consulates of Portugal to 35.5% at those of Lithuania. Sweden’s consulates worldwide refused 23.1%. Sweden was the 13th most applied-for Schengen state in Turkey.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Turkey, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
