Portugal: visa decisions in Tunisia
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 1,029 | 791 | 238 | 23.1% | 24.3% |
| 2024 | 1,390 | 1,156 | 156 | 11.9% | 16.6% |
| 2025 | 1,517 | 1,204 | 313 | 20.6% | 16.7% |
In 2025, Portugal’s embassy and consulates in Tunisia (Tunis) received 1,517 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 1,204. 20.6% of applications were refused. In 2024 it had been 11.9%: the rate rose by 8.7 points, a sharp increase. Applications rose by 9% compared with 2024 (1,390).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 19.6% of the applications lodged in Tunisia that year, from 15.4% at the consulates of France to 46.3% at those of the Czech Republic. Portugal’s consulates worldwide refused 23.3%. Portugal was the 12th most applied-for Schengen state in Tunisia.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Tunisia, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
