Switzerland: visa decisions in Thailand
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 43,441 | 42,252 | 1,186 | 2.7% | 20.3% |
| 2024 | 31,723 | 30,334 | 1,385 | 4.4% | 19.3% |
| 2025 | 26,989 | 25,762 | 1,225 | 4.5% | 20.0% |
In 2025, Switzerland’s embassy and consulates in Thailand (Bangkok) received 26,989 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 25,762. The refusal rate was 4.5%. That is barely different from 2024 (4.4%). Applications fell by 15% compared with 2024 (31,723).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 5.9% of the applications lodged in Thailand that year, from 2.0% at the consulates of Romania to 28.7% at those of Poland. Switzerland’s consulates worldwide refused 12.5%. Switzerland was the 5th most applied-for Schengen state in Thailand.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Thailand, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
