Portugal: visa decisions in Thailand
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 2,584 | 2,481 | 103 | 4.0% | 87.7% |
| 2024 | 2,533 | 2,369 | 86 | 3.5% | 94.8% |
| 2025 | 2,881 | 2,695 | 186 | 6.5% | 81.6% |
In 2025, Portugal’s embassy and consulates in Thailand (Bangkok) received 2,881 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 2,695. 6.5% of applications were refused. In 2024 it had been 3.5%: the rate rose by 3.0 points. Applications rose by 14% compared with 2024 (2,533).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 5.9% of the applications lodged in Thailand that year, from 2.0% at the consulates of Romania to 28.7% at those of Poland. Portugal’s consulates worldwide refused 23.3%. Portugal was the 13th most applied-for Schengen state in Thailand.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Thailand, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
