Spain: visa decisions in South Korea
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 444 | 379 | 39 | 9.3% | 5.3% |
| 2024 | 505 | 421 | 59 | 12.3% | 6.2% |
| 2025 | 825 | 745 | 28 | 3.6% | 7.0% |
In 2025, Spain’s embassy and consulates in South Korea (Seoul) received 825 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 745. The refusal rate was 3.6%. The refusal rate fell by 8.7 points from 12.3% in 2024, a clear improvement for applicants. Applications rose by 63% compared with 2024 (505).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 11.5% of the applications lodged in South Korea that year. Spain’s consulates worldwide refused 14.6%. Spain was the most applied-for Schengen state in South Korea.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in South Korea, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
