In fiscal year 2025 (October 2024 to September 2025) the United States issued 302 nonimmigrant visas to citizens of Somalia, the 177th highest number of the 206 nationalities listed. Diplomatic and official visas (A, G) made up 51%, visitor visas 26% and fiancé(e) visas 17%. That is 29% fewer than in fiscal year 2024 (423).

From October 2025 to February 2026, citizens of Somalia received 32, 80% fewer than in the same months a year earlier.

For visitor visas (B1/B2) the State Department reports an adjusted refusal rate of 83.5% for citizens of Somalia in fiscal year 2025 (fiscal year 2024: 77.0%). The adjusted rate counts a refusal that was later overcome, for example with further documents, as an issuance. A rate below 3% is one of the conditions for a country to join the Visa Waiver Program.

These figures count visas issued to citizens of Somalia anywhere in the world, not only at the US missions in Somalia.
