Italy: visa decisions in Serbia
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 1,545 | 1,491 | 52 | 3.4% | 44.8% |
| 2024 | 1,733 | 1,641 | 91 | 5.3% | 54.7% |
| 2025 | 1,829 | 1,740 | 89 | 4.9% | 48.6% |
In 2025, Italy’s embassy and consulates in Serbia (Belgrade) received 1,829 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 1,740. 4.9% of applications were refused. In 2024 the rate was much the same, 5.3%. Applications rose by 6% compared with 2024 (1,733).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 5.7% of the applications lodged in Serbia that year, from 1.1% at the consulates of Greece to 16.9% at those of Croatia. Italy’s consulates worldwide refused 10.8%. Italy was the 4th most applied-for Schengen state in Serbia.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Serbia, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
