Austria: visa decisions in Serbia
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 1,175 | 1,088 | 60 | 5.1% | 71.6% |
| 2024 | 1,376 | 1,340 | 11 | 0.8% | 64.0% |
| 2025 | 1,405 | 1,330 | 29 | 2.1% | 47.0% |
In 2025, Austria’s embassy and consulates in Serbia (Belgrade) received 1,405 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 1,330. 2.1% of applications were refused. In 2024 the rate was much the same, 0.8%. The number of applications was almost unchanged (1,376 in 2024).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 5.7% of the applications lodged in Serbia that year, from 1.1% at the consulates of Greece to 16.9% at those of Croatia. Austria’s consulates worldwide refused 11.9%. Austria was the 7th most applied-for Schengen state in Serbia.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Serbia, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
