2024 6,0504,3721,67527.7% 45.3%
2025 6,2464,4821,76428.2% 38.9%

In 2025, Italy’s embassy and consulates in Senegal (Dakar) received 6,246 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 4,482. 28.2% of applications were refused. In 2024 the rate was much the same, 27.7%. Applications rose by 3% compared with 2024 (6,050).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 51.9% of the applications lodged in Senegal that year, from 25.7% at the consulates of Germany to 82.1% at those of Portugal. Italy’s consulates worldwide refused 10.8%. Italy was the 4th most applied-for Schengen state in Senegal.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Senegal, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
