Germany: visa decisions in Rwanda

2024 119991411.9% 92.9%
2025 3572793811.3% 72.4%

In 2025, Germany’s embassy and consulates in Rwanda (Kigali) received 357 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 279. 11.3% of applications were refused. In 2024 the rate was much the same, 11.9%. Applications rose by 200% compared with 2024 (119).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 37.3% of the applications lodged in Rwanda that year, from 37.9% at the consulates of France to 40.2% at those of Belgium. Germany’s consulates worldwide refused 13.1%. Germany was the 3rd most applied-for Schengen state in Rwanda.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Rwanda, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
