YearApplicationsVisas issuedRefusedRefusal rateMultiple-entry share
2023 9,9808,2605825.8% 80.8%
2024 10,2248,4994774.7% 78.1%
2025 11,3789,0651,0339.1% 63.5%

In 2025, Switzerland’s embassy and consulates in Russia (Moscow) received 11,378 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 9,065. 9.1% of applications were refused. In 2024 it had been 4.7%: the rate rose by 4.4 points. Applications rose by 11% compared with 2024 (10,224).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 6.4% of the applications lodged in Russia that year, from 0.9% at the consulates of the Netherlands to 19.8% at those of Malta. Switzerland’s consulates worldwide refused 12.5%. Switzerland was the 9th most applied-for Schengen state in Russia.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Russia, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
