Spain: visa decisions in Paraguay
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 67 | 48 | 8 | 14.3% | 18.8% |
| 2024 | 91 | 65 | 20 | 23.5% | 6.2% |
| 2025 | 61 | 36 | 15 | 29.4% | 5.6% |
In 2025, Spain’s embassy and consulates in Paraguay (Asunción) received 61 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 36. The refusal rate was 29.4%. The refusal rate rose by 5.9 points from 23.5% in 2024, a sharp increase. Applications fell by 33% compared with 2024 (91).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 18.5% of the applications lodged in Paraguay that year. Spain’s consulates worldwide refused 14.6%. Spain was the most applied-for Schengen state in Paraguay.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Paraguay, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
