Romania: visa decisions in Oman

YearApplicationsVisas issuedRefusedRefusal rateMultiple-entry share
2024 (part of the year) 16914542.4% 97.9%
2025 136123139.6% 81.3%

In 2025, Romania’s embassy and consulates in Oman (Muscat) received 136 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 123. The refusal rate was 9.6%. The refusal rate rose by 7.2 points from 2.4% in 2024, a sharp increase. Applications fell by 20% compared with 2024 (169).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 10.5% of the applications lodged in Oman that year, from 3.7% at the consulates of Austria to 16.6% at those of Spain. Romania’s consulates worldwide refused 11.5%. Romania was the 8th most applied-for Schengen state in Oman.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. Romania only began issuing Schengen visas on 31 March 2024, so its 2024 figures cover part of the year. The figures cover applications lodged in Oman, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
