Romania: visa decisions in Nigeria
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2024 (part of the year) | 413 | 248 | 159 | 39.1% | 18.1% |
| 2025 | 303 | 177 | 126 | 40.4% | 32.2% |
In 2025, Romania’s embassy and consulates in Nigeria (Abuja) received 303 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 177. 40.4% of applications were refused. In 2024 the rate was much the same, 39.1%. Applications fell by 27% compared with 2024 (413).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 47.9% of the applications lodged in Nigeria that year, from 27.2% at the consulates of Switzerland to 66.1% at those of Bulgaria. Romania’s consulates worldwide refused 11.5%. Romania was the 16th most applied-for Schengen state in Nigeria.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. Romania only began issuing Schengen visas on 31 March 2024, so its 2024 figures cover part of the year. The figures cover applications lodged in Nigeria, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
