Poland: visa decisions in Nigeria

YearApplicationsVisas issuedRefusedRefusal rateMultiple-entry share
2023 74951023531.3% 12.7%
2024 70431638453.8% 16.5%
2025 66935230946.1% 11.9%

In 2025, Poland’s embassy and consulates in Nigeria (Abuja) received 669 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 352. The refusal rate was 46.1%. The refusal rate fell by 7.7 points from 53.8% in 2024, a clear improvement for applicants. Applications fell by 5% compared with 2024 (704).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 47.9% of the applications lodged in Nigeria that year, from 27.2% at the consulates of Switzerland to 66.1% at those of Bulgaria. Poland’s consulates worldwide refused 15.8%. Poland was the 12th most applied-for Schengen state in Nigeria.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Nigeria, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
