2024 9,3195,8903,37736.4% 43.4%
2025 7,7125,4172,24429.2% 34.4%

In 2025, Germany’s embassy and consulates in Nigeria (Lagos and Abuja) received 7,712 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 5,417. 29.2% of applications were refused. In 2024 it had been 36.4%: the rate fell by 7.2 points, a clear improvement for applicants. Applications fell by 17% compared with 2024 (9,319).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 47.9% of the applications lodged in Nigeria that year, from 27.2% at the consulates of Switzerland to 66.1% at those of Bulgaria. Germany’s consulates worldwide refused 13.1%. Germany was the 4th most applied-for Schengen state in Nigeria.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Nigeria, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
