Italy: visa decisions in Myanmar

YearApplicationsVisas issuedRefusedRefusal rateMultiple-entry share
2023 1,6231,24837523.1% 37.7%
2024 1,3921,04135125.2% 47.3%
2025 1,5611,38817311.1% 34.9%

In 2025, Italy’s embassy and consulates in Myanmar (Yangon) received 1,561 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 1,388. The refusal rate was 11.1%. The refusal rate fell by 14.1 points from 25.2% in 2024, a clear improvement for applicants. Applications rose by 12% compared with 2024 (1,392).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 17.1% of the applications lodged in Myanmar that year, from 8.1% at the consulates of France to 24.3% at those of the Netherlands. Italy’s consulates worldwide refused 10.8%. Italy was the 4th most applied-for Schengen state in Myanmar.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Myanmar, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
