Spain: visa decisions in Mexico
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 885 | 745 | 10 | 1.3% | 14.5% |
| 2024 | 956 | 813 | 26 | 3.1% | 8.6% |
| 2025 | 954 | 833 | 28 | 3.3% | 8.2% |
In 2025, Spain’s embassy and consulates in Mexico (Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey) received 954 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 833. The refusal rate was 3.3%. That is barely different from 2024 (3.1%). The number of applications was almost unchanged (956 in 2024).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 5.5% of the applications lodged in Mexico that year. Spain’s consulates worldwide refused 14.6%. Spain was the most applied-for Schengen state in Mexico.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Mexico, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
