Netherlands: visa decisions in Malaysia
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 971 | 608 | 269 | 30.6% | 40.1% |
| 2024 | 1,016 | 600 | 363 | 37.6% | 38.8% |
| 2025 | 1,767 | 668 | 1,072 | 61.5% | 32.0% |
In 2025, the Netherlands’ embassy and consulates in Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) received 1,767 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 668. 61.5% of applications were refused. In 2024 it had been 37.6%: the rate rose by 23.9 points, a sharp increase. Applications rose by 74% compared with 2024 (1,016).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 30.8% of the applications lodged in Malaysia that year. the Netherlands’ consulates worldwide refused 17.7%. The Netherlands was the 2nd most applied-for Schengen state in Malaysia.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Malaysia, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
