Germany: visa decisions in Malaysia
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 770 | 591 | 176 | 22.9% | 86.1% |
| 2024 | 903 | 674 | 226 | 25.1% | 72.1% |
| 2025 | 991 | 740 | 247 | 25.0% | 31.1% |
In 2025, Germany’s embassy and consulates in Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) received 991 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 740. The refusal rate was 25.0%. That is barely different from 2024 (25.1%). Applications rose by 10% compared with 2024 (903).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 30.8% of the applications lodged in Malaysia that year, from 0.3% at the consulates of Austria to 61.5% at those of the Netherlands. Germany’s consulates worldwide refused 13.1%. Germany was the 3rd most applied-for Schengen state in Malaysia.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Malaysia, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
