Finland: visa decisions in Malaysia
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 105 | 84 | 18 | 17.6% | 16.7% |
| 2024 | 158 | 106 | 49 | 31.6% | 15.1% |
| 2025 | 119 | 78 | 31 | 25.6% | 10.3% |
In 2025, Finland’s embassy and consulates in Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) received 119 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 78. The refusal rate was 25.6%. The refusal rate fell by 6.0 points from 31.6% in 2024, a clear improvement for applicants. Applications fell by 25% compared with 2024 (158).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 30.8% of the applications lodged in Malaysia that year, from 0.3% at the consulates of Austria to 61.5% at those of the Netherlands. Finland’s consulates worldwide refused 13.4%. Finland was the 9th most applied-for Schengen state in Malaysia.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Malaysia, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
