Belgium: visa decisions in Malaysia
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 119 | 91 | 28 | 23.5% | 23.1% |
| 2024 | 157 | 129 | 22 | 14.6% | 21.7% |
| 2025 | 168 | 130 | 30 | 18.8% | 18.5% |
In 2025, Belgium’s embassy and consulates in Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) received 168 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 130. The refusal rate was 18.8%. The refusal rate rose by 4.2 points from 14.6% in 2024. Applications rose by 7% compared with 2024 (157).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 30.8% of the applications lodged in Malaysia that year, from 0.3% at the consulates of Austria to 61.5% at those of the Netherlands. Belgium’s consulates worldwide refused 26.1%. Belgium was the 7th most applied-for Schengen state in Malaysia.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Malaysia, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
