YearApplicationsVisas issuedRefusedRefusal rateMultiple-entry share
2023 31,14230,2249172.9% 89.2%
2024 28,97728,0029743.4% 89.6%
2025 23,77223,0517213.0% 91.6%

In 2025, Italy’s embassy and consulates in Kuwait (Kuwait City) received 23,772 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 23,051. The refusal rate was 3.0%. That is barely different from 2024 (3.4%). Applications fell by 18% compared with 2024 (28,977).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 5.7% of the applications lodged in Kuwait that year, from 2.7% at the consulates of France to 15.1% at those of Hungary. Italy’s consulates worldwide refused 10.8%. Italy was the 3rd most applied-for Schengen state in Kuwait.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Kuwait, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
