2024 1,03866936835.1% 10.5%
2025 1,07858848945.2% 9.4%

In 2025, Poland’s embassy and consulates in Iraq (Erbil) received 1,078 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 588. 45.2% of applications were refused. In 2024 it had been 35.1%: the rate rose by 10.1 points, a sharp increase. Applications rose by 4% compared with 2024 (1,038).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 34.3% of the applications lodged in Iraq that year, from 25.0% at the consulates of Italy to 84.2% at those of Hungary. Poland’s consulates worldwide refused 15.8%. Poland was the 9th most applied-for Schengen state in Iraq.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Iraq, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
