Croatia: visa decisions in Iraq

YearApplicationsVisas issuedRefusedRefusal rateMultiple-entry share

2024 40525014335.9% 49.2%
2025 40525711028.6% 49.0%

In 2025, Croatia’s embassy and consulates in Iraq (Baghdad) received 405 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 257. 28.6% of applications were refused. In 2024 it had been 35.9%: the rate fell by 7.4 points, a clear improvement for applicants. The number of applications was almost unchanged (405 in 2024).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 34.3% of the applications lodged in Iraq that year, from 25.0% at the consulates of Italy to 84.2% at those of Hungary. Croatia’s consulates worldwide refused 18.5%. Croatia was the 11th most applied-for Schengen state in Iraq.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Iraq, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
