Switzerland: visa decisions in Iran
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 10,346 | 9,350 | 765 | 7.4% | 16.3% |
| 2024 | 13,440 | 11,883 | 1,310 | 9.7% | 16.7% |
| 2025 | 5,746 | 4,568 | 1,008 | 17.5% | 29.7% |
In 2025, Switzerland’s embassy and consulates in Iran (Tehran) received 5,746 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 4,568. 17.5% of applications were refused. In 2024 it had been 9.7%: the rate rose by 7.8 points, a sharp increase. Applications fell by 57% compared with 2024 (13,440).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 29.1% of the applications lodged in Iran that year, from 16.6% at the consulates of Romania to 46.2% at those of Austria. Switzerland’s consulates worldwide refused 12.5%. Switzerland was the 6th most applied-for Schengen state in Iran.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Iran, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
