Spain: visa decisions in India
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 91,863 | 77,194 | 13,447 | 14.8% | 14.6% |
| 2024 | 97,204 | 80,806 | 15,150 | 15.8% | 23.1% |
| 2025 | 90,720 | 75,906 | 13,825 | 15.4% | 16.1% |
In 2025, Spain’s embassy and consulates in India (Mumbai and New Delhi) received 90,720 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 75,906. The refusal rate was 15.4%. That is barely different from 2024 (15.8%). Applications fell by 7% compared with 2024 (97,204).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 15.8% of the applications lodged in India that year, from 7.1% at the consulates of Denmark to 46.5% at those of Slovenia. Spain’s consulates worldwide refused 14.6%. Spain was the 5th most applied-for Schengen state in India.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in India, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
