Netherlands: visa decisions in India
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 83,556 | 70,071 | 12,618 | 15.3% | 77.4% |
| 2024 | 91,003 | 75,727 | 14,569 | 16.1% | 73.7% |
| 2025 | 97,650 | 77,057 | 20,156 | 20.7% | 55.1% |
In 2025, the Netherlands’ embassy and consulates in India (New Delhi and Mumbai) received 97,650 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 77,057. The refusal rate was 20.7%. The refusal rate rose by 4.6 points from 16.1% in 2024. Applications rose by 7% compared with 2024 (91,003).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 15.8% of the applications lodged in India that year, from 7.1% at the consulates of Denmark to 46.5% at those of Slovenia. the Netherlands’ consulates worldwide refused 17.7%. The Netherlands was the 4th most applied-for Schengen state in India.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in India, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
