2024 5,2574,27883516.3% 18.1%
2025 10,9068,0612,79325.7% 24.2%

In 2025, Iceland’s embassy and consulates in India (New Delhi) received 10,906 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 8,061. The refusal rate was 25.7%. The refusal rate rose by 9.4 points from 16.3% in 2024, a sharp increase. Applications rose by 107% compared with 2024 (5,257).

For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 15.8% of the applications lodged in India that year, from 7.1% at the consulates of Denmark to 46.5% at those of Slovenia. Iceland’s consulates worldwide refused 13.8%. Iceland was the 17th most applied-for Schengen state in India.

You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in India, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
