Finland: visa decisions in India
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 16,447 | 11,675 | 4,395 | 27.3% | 8.2% |
| 2024 | 17,762 | 13,878 | 3,483 | 20.0% | 6.7% |
| 2025 | 17,564 | 15,132 | 2,450 | 13.9% | 11.9% |
In 2025, Finland’s embassy and consulates in India (New Delhi) received 17,564 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 15,132. 13.9% of applications were refused. In 2024 it had been 20.0%: the rate fell by 6.1 points, a clear improvement for applicants. The number of applications was almost unchanged (17,762 in 2024).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 15.8% of the applications lodged in India that year, from 7.1% at the consulates of Denmark to 46.5% at those of Slovenia. Finland’s consulates worldwide refused 13.4%. Finland was the 13th most applied-for Schengen state in India.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in India, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
