Visa requirements for Guyanese citizens

Guyanese citizens need a Schengen visa, which covers all member states for up to 90 days in any 180-day period.

Of the 198 countries whose entry rules are known in both directions, Guyana and 38 of them let each other’s citizens in without a visa obtained in advance (visa-free, on arrival or with an ETA; an e-visa counts as a visa).

24 countries ask holders of the Guyanese passport for a visa beforehand, although their own citizens enter Guyana without one: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Cuba and 19 others.

The reverse holds for 44 countries: holders of the Guyanese passport get in without a visa obtained in advance, but their citizens need one for Guyana (Angola, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Burundi, Cambodia and 39 others).

66 countries have no embassy or career consulate on record in Guyana, so the application usually goes to one of their posts in another country. Counting the post an official diplomatic list names for Guyana, or else the nearest one within 2,000 km, those posts are most often in Trinidad and Tobago (5), Venezuela (3) and Colombia (2).

The United States refused 27% of visitor-visa (B1/B2) applications from citizens of Guyana in fiscal year 2025, by the State Department’s adjusted refusal rate. 90 of the 197 nationalities with a published rate had a lower one and 106 a higher one; the middle value was 32%.

Visa-free travel with the Guyanese passport

By continent, the Guyanese passport is visa-free in 22 countries in the Americas, 14 countries in Africa, 7 countries in Asia, 4 countries in Europe and 4 countries in Oceania. The longest visa-free stays for Guyanese citizens are allowed in Antigua and Barbuda (180 days), Dominica (180 days), Peru (180 days), Suriname (180 days), Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (180 days) and Fiji (120 days).

Visa on arrival

Guyanese citizens can get a visa at the airport or land border of Bahrain, Bangladesh, Burundi, Cambodia, Cape Verde, the Comoros, Djibouti and 20 others.

E-Visa and electronic travel authorisation

An e-Visa, applied for online before the trip, is how Guyanese citizens enter Armenia, Australia, Benin, Bhutan, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cameroon and 35 others. Ivory Coast, Papua New Guinea, Saint Kitts and Nevis, South Korea and the United Kingdom ask instead for an electronic travel authorisation (ETA), a lighter online check than a visa.

Guyana’s neighbours

Suriname and Brazil admit Guyanese citizens without a visa. For the other neighbours, the rules are: Venezuela (visa required).

Among neighbouring passports, the Brazilian passport ranks 44th (150 destinations), the Venezuelan passport ranks 90th (110 destinations) and the Surinamese passport ranks 121st (71 destinations). Of the 198 passports in the data, 62 can enter visa-free and 136 need an e-Visa for Guyana.
