Netherlands: visa decisions in Ghana
| Year | Applications | Visas issued | Refused | Refusal rate | Multiple-entry share |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 14,858 | 5,589 | 8,981 | 61.6% | 26.1% |
| 2024 | 14,466 | 5,675 | 8,394 | 59.6% | 31.6% |
| 2025 | 17,959 | 8,076 | 9,746 | 54.7% | 19.6% |
In 2025, the Netherlands’ embassy and consulates in Ghana (Accra) received 17,959 applications for short-stay Schengen visas and issued 8,076. The refusal rate was 54.7%. The refusal rate fell by 5.0 points from 59.6% in 2024, a clear improvement for applicants. Applications rose by 24% compared with 2024 (14,466).
For comparison, all Schengen states together refused 46.5% of the applications lodged in Ghana that year, from 33.5% at the consulates of Germany to 71.9% at those of the Czech Republic. the Netherlands’ consulates worldwide refused 17.7%. The Netherlands was the most applied-for Schengen state in Ghana.
You apply to the Schengen state that is your main destination (the longest stay or the main purpose; the state of first entry only when there is none), so a lower rate elsewhere is no reason to apply there. The figures cover applications lodged in Ghana, by any nationality: mostly citizens, but also residents from other countries.
